The prime purpose of surgery of esodeviation is to align the visual axis and thus supplement medical treatment in the hope of securing a functional result (i.e. single biocular vision). Cosmetic improvements occur in a large proportion of cases, but functional results unfortunately have not been achieved to any great degree. It is hoped that early medical and surgical treatment will improve the functional success ratio.
