Direct photography of the tympanic membrane was accomplished in anaesthetized beagles through an endoscope inserted into the auditory meatus. The membrane was illuminated by a fibre-optics probe inserted into the eustachian tube. Local injections of epinephrine were given to control haemorrhage, and trauma to the roof of the nasopharynx was avoided by careful technique.
