Diagnosis of symptomatic forms of wilson's disease

Over the past 10 years, Wilson's disease has been diagnosed in 28 patients. The diagnosis is always based primarily on biochemical findings common to all the clinical forms of the disease. Personal history and the results of objective investigation appear to be unreliable, except for the Kayser-Fleischer ring. The essential criterion is the drop of serum ceruloplasmin concentration under 20 mg/100 ml. Definite proof is the presence of copper concentration in the liver of over 250 mu g/g dry matter and increased Cu excretion in the urine.
