The effects of isometric exercise (handgrip) on systolic time intervals (STI) were studied in patients with systemic hypertension. The subjects were divided in 2 groups: (B) with and (C) without ischemic heart disease. PEP , in the patients of the 1st group, cannot be differentiated from those of the patients with ischemic heart disease but without systemic hypertension. The changes of the same parameters, induced by isometric exercise, in the patients of the C group cannot be differentiated from those of the controls. Systemic hypertension does not modify the changes of STI during handgrip. The behavior is related only to the different degrees of myocardial improvement.
