Mechlorethamine (NSC-762) plus CCNU (NSC-79037) in the treatment of inoperable squamous and large cell carcinoma of the lung

The therapeutic merits of CCNU [1-(2-chloroethyl)-3-cyclohexyl-1-nitrosourea] in squamous cell and large cell carcinomas of the lung were recently reviewed by Selawry who found that in 17% of reported cases these 2 histologic types of cancer regressed objectively after treatment with CCNU. Composite data from that review indicate that squamous and large cell carcinomas regressed in 21% and 26% of the patients, respectively, when treated with mechlorethamine as a single agent. In comparison the present results were poor, and the combination regimen was not better than mechlorethamine alone in squamous and large cell carcinomas.
