Changes in immunoglobulin [Ig] levels as indicators of skin diseases were measured in 102 textile workers in direct contact with acrylonitrile, methacrylate, sodium thiocyanate and other acrylate components of the synthetic fabric Nitron. Workers with clinical symptoms of epidermitis, contact dermatitis and allergic dermatitis exhibited specific changes in IgG and IgM levels. The most pronounced deviations in Ig level were observed in workers with < 2 yr on the job. This suggests the following: impairment of immunological reactivity results from non-adaptation to production with frequent safety violations; workers with long-term contact with acrylates and sodium thiocyanate develop compensatory reactions; the appearance of skin affection nidi, especially in allergic dermatitis, increases the synthesis of IgG.
