The behavior of total protein and changes occurring in the proportional composition of 5 basic protein fractions (albumin, .alpha.1- and .alpha.2-globulins, .beta.-globulin, .gamma.-globulin) in the blood serum in rats during acute intoxication with a single i.p. dose of lead acetate were investigated. The experiment was carried out on 3 groups of animals with doses of 20 mg, 40 mg and 80 mg Pb/kg body weight. Measurements were taken 1 day and 6 days after intoxication. A dose of 20 mg Pb/kg body weight had no significant influence on either the behavior of total protein or the proportional composition of blood serum proteins. A dose of 40 mg Pb/kg significantly influenced the decreased in the albumin and globulin fractions but had no effect on the proportional composition of serum protein fractions. A dose of 80 mg/kg of body weight caused a considerable decrease in the albumin fraction and an increase in .alpha.1- and .alpha.2-globulins.
