Actions of suloctidil and of the Ca-antagonist cinnarizine of the rat aorta

Suloctidil has a pharmacological profile different from that of cinnarizine. The inhibition of the contraction of vascular smooth muscle by suloctidil does not seem to be caused by the mechanisms responsible for the action of cinnarizine. The ratio between the threshold concentration of suloctidil required for this inhibition and the concentration producing the unresponsiveness of the smooth muscle subsequent to its contraction is very small. Whereas the action of cinnarizine might be to block the opening of Ca2+ channels, the action of suloctidil on vessels might be due to the factors responsible for the alteration of the ionic composition of the smooth muscle cell.
