Primary tumours in the spine and pelvis in adolescents: clinical and radiological features

The clinical and radiological features for primary spinal and pelvic tumors in 34 patients in their first 2 decades of life are described and discussed. Histiocytosis X was the most common benign tumor and Ewing's sarcoma the most common malignant tumor. Positive X-rays were obtained in 32 of 34 cases but they were of little diagnostic value. Primary complaints were insignificant. Final diagnosis can only be made after a biopsy.
