Pathological galactorrhea

Mammary secreations during any period other than pregnancy and the postnatal lactation period are considered pathological: this encompasses pathological galactorrhea. Pathological galactorrhea is considered to be a possible symptom of serious hypophyseal-hypothalamic disorders. Such disorders as endocrinal disruptions or hypothalamic inflammatory processes can complicate therapy with contemporary preparations such as steroid hormones or hypotonic preparations. As pathological galactorrhea is very often accompanied by ammenorrhea or other cyclical disorders which also appear as a result of endocrinal disorders, careful diagnostics are demanded. The etiology of pathological galactorrhea is closely examined in an attempt to clarify any correlation in alternations of prolactin secretion with other accompanying disorders. A clinical picture of both primary and secondary galactorrhea is made and its treatment with prolactin-inhibiting hormones.
