The excretion of luteinizing hormone (LH), dopamine, and 5-oxyindolacetic acid (5-OILC) was measured daily over the course of 18 cycles in 15 women, aged 25-30 years. 13 of the cycles were ovulatory (out of which 5 showed a luteal insufficiency), and 5 were anovulatory. A statistically significant correlation was revealed between the excretion of dopamine and LH in the middle of the cycle. The peak of LH excretion coincided, as as rule, with the peak of dopamine excretion. No such correlation could be found between the excretion of 5-OILC and LH in any part of the cycle. The ovulatory cycles with a luteal insufficiency were marked by a lower excretion of dopamine.
