Some cogent observations on amoebic hepatopathies using radioactive rose bengal

Amoebic hepatopathies refer to 3 clinical syndromes, namely, hepatic amoebiasis, amoebic liver abscess and amoebic hepatitis. It is not yet clear if these are different entities or stages of the same disease process. 46 patients were investigated by assessing I131 rose bengal blood clearance rate and by scintiscanning procedures. Diagnosis of amoebic liver abscess by radio-isotope techniques was most satisfactory but no positive findings could be demonstrated in amoebic hepatitis. True hepatomegaly occurred in cases of hepatic amoebiasis.
