A review with 78 references is done on the cytokinins, phytohormone-active substances, which play a pivotal role in the regulation of metabolic activities. The relationships of cytokinins to tRNA and to microbial metabolism and the cytokinin-active compounds in microorganisms are surveyed. A review is included of microorganisms which were studied as producers of cytokinins (Corynebacterium, Rhizopogon, Rhizobium).
