A series of 40 neuroleptics (major tranquillizers) were tested in nine standardized screening assays in rats. The symbolized results are tabulated and graphically represented as "neuroleptic activity spectra" for rats. A method of classification of neuroleptic drugs is described. For the purpose of predicting clinical effects from animal data we assume that two drugs with similar spectra will act similarly in the clinic
