Early effect of cortisol on the in vitro binding activity of rat spleen polyribosomes

The authors examined the influence of cortisol during the first eight hours after its intraperitoneal administration in rats on the spleen and its polyribosomes. It was found that the weight of the spleen, referred to the body weight, diminished statisticaly significantly six hour after hormone application. The translirating activity of the polyribosomes of the spleen at the same time and this was not due to the presence of an inhibitor or to a deficit of the information RNA, but to changes in the ribosomes themselves.
