The effect of azathioprine on the occurrence of chromosome abnormalities in the Göttingen miniature swine

Ten male and 10 female Gottingen Miniature pigs were used; half were given doses of 5, 10 or 25 mg azathioprin/kg body weight for periods of 17, 25 or 28 days and the other half were left as untreated controls. Even at the lowest dose, a small, but significant, increase in the percentage of abnormal metaphase chromosomes was observed in males , but not in females , compared with untreated controls.
