Effectiveness of retaining beta radioactive substances by cigarette filters from the acetate type

The filters used in 2 kinds of Bulgarian cigarettes and 5 kinds of Japanese cigarettes were studied regarding their effectiveness in retaining .beta. ratioactive substances, contained in tobacco smoke. The effectiveness of retaining .beta. radioactive substances is from 6-12%. The examined filters of the acetate type have a very weak protective effect with regard to .beta. radioactive substances entering the lungs of smokers in the process of smoking.
