The author adopts a definite attitude to problems of the influence of the activated thyroid gland on the calcium metabolism and on the parathyroidal adaptivity. Own clinical findings plead for indirect thyro-parathyroidal correlations. On certain conditions hyperthroidism induces a hypercalcuria leading to functional hyperparathyroidism. The possible clinical sequelae are discussed, taking especially into consideration the simultaneous hyperparathyroidism. The hyperthyroid hypercalcaemia may be a concomitant phenomenon, but may also indicate a coincident and adenomatous hyperparathyroidism. This recognition contains important diagnostic and therapeutic consequences, which are demonstrated in detail.
