Treatment of perforation of the large intestine due to illegal abortion

Surgical repair of lesions of the large intestine following illegal abortion in a 28-year-old woman is described. Hysterectomy was performed for uterine perforation, and the colonic perforation was walled off from the peritoneal cavity. Transverse colostomy was done for vecal deviation and the pelvis was drained vaginally. After the intestinal injury had healed, the colostomy was closed. Surgical techniques are discussed in detail.
