The capillary vascular pattern of normal and schistosomal urinary bladder tissue from 50 Egyptians was studied using the Gomori azo alkaline phosphatase technique. The capillary bed of normal uroepithelium was rich in comparison with the other layers of the bladder wall. The capillary density increased in schistosomal cystitis. Schistosoma ova showed abundant alkaline phosphatase activity. Schistosomal ulcers and sandy patches had a poor capillary bed, while schistosomal polypi were richly microvascularized and the Brunn nests cystitis cystica and glandularis were encircled and nourished by a dense capillary network. A correlation was made between the status of the capillary bed and various schistosomal lesions. [AS].
