Voles were assigned at birth to light regimes of 15 h light:9 h darkness or 10 h light:14 h darkness. Males aged 50 days and females aged 45 days were injected with 50 ng LHRH, and the LH response was measured. The plasma LH level (ng/ml) was 0.9 and 0.1 for males on long and short daylengths resp., corresponding values for females being 0.8 and 0.07. The pituitary response to LHRH did not appear to be controlled by the photoperiod.
