Polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) was, by mistake, incorporated in animal food at the pelleting plant of a large feed mill. This paper describes action taken by the Public Health Authority. All affected animals were bought by the feed company and owners were compensated for their losses - but the problem remained of what to do with the contaminated animals and food. Eventually, everything was buried in a 60-acre site with known drainage and soil type. The operation took more than a year, though the organization was capable of burying 600 cattle/day. PBB contamination is still being found on premises which were carefully cleaned.
