The role of Ca2+ in adenosine synthesis in rat synaptosomes, a dose-dependent effect of adenosine on ACh (acetylcholine) synthesis and changes in rabbit visually evoked potentials were established. Since adenosine influenced ACh synthesis a further role of this nucleoside in neurotransmitter processes may have been discovered.
