Of 5889 persons admitted to 2 hospitals in Dacca during 12 months 154 had cirrhosis of the liver. Most had "weakness", loss of weight and anorexia but only 9 had a history of alcohol intake. Most lived on a mainly carbohydrate diet and many had clinical evidence of malnutrition and vitamin deficiency.
