The binding of DSCG to mass cells is transient and may involve complexing of some component (an ion) needed for histamine release. The effect of DSCG to prevent release by the ionophore A-23187 was studied. DSCG, 10-50 .mu.g/ml, prevents both histamine release and 45Ca movement into the rat mast cell induced by the ionophore.
