Reversal of dominance in the competition between Drosophila nasuta and Drosophila neonasuta

When laboratory populations of the closely related species Drosophila nasuta Lamb and D. neonasuta Sajjan & Krishnamurthy were initiated at a ratio of 1:1, D. nasuta eventually supplanted D. neonasuta, but for a 1:4 ratio the situation was reversed. This result is discussed in relation to natural selection and the possibility that sparse species are favoured.
