Hydatid disease in Uganda

From 1967 to 1972, 23 cases of hydatid disease were recorded at Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda. 5 cases were from Karamoja, where 20% of cattle were infected, 14 were from Acholi (but 11 of these were Sudanese immigrants) where 1% of cattle were infected, one was in a European who had lived in the Sudan for many years, and one was a Rwandan. Of the 23 cases, the liver was involved in 14, the lung in 4, the peritoneum in 4, muscle in 3 and the breast in one.
