Response of P. falciparum infection to chloroquine therapy in some parts of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka States

An extended field test with chloroquine against asexual stages of Plasmodium falciparum in India during 1974 showed sensitivity to 1500 mg base (in 3 doses) in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, and C.N. Halli and Shorapur, Karnataka, and to 600 mg in Rameswaram. Once case showed asexual parasites on day 28 in Shorapur but this was probably due to re-infection.
