Manganese oxidizing microorganisms belonging to the genus Metallogenium were found in the phylloplane of various trees and grass plants. This is the first evidence that epiphytes participate in the transformation of mineral elements, and that microorganisms belonging to the genus Metallogenium can be found not only in fresh water and soil.
