1. We must be aware that nearly half of the cases of toxic shock syndrome are not associated with menstruation. It has occurred with pneumonia, osteomyelitis, sinusitis, cutaneus and postsurgical staphylococcal and streptococcal infections. 2. Menstrual and non-menstrual cases are clinically indistinguishable. 3. Toxic shock syndrome can be life threatening if not promptly recognized. 4. Aggressive intravenous fluids replacement, vassopressors, inmuno-globulin therapy together with drainage of the site of toxin production may be life-saving.
