Of 406 bitches treated in the Clinic for endometritis and pyometra, between 1964 and 1973, 116 had received hormone treatments to induce abortion or interrupt heat. The incidence of pyometra increases with age, but a significantly high percentage of young bitches suffered from pyometra subsequent to hormone treatment. It appeared that the use of depot oestrogens was particularly liable to lead to pyometra.
