Metagonimiasis in the Amur region

Metagonimus infection in molluscs, fish, wild and domestic animals and man (17.5% of 1,891 people investigated were infected) was studied in the Lower and Middle Priamur areas, USSR. In carnivores and man the rate of infection increased regularly from southern to northern areas. This pattern was repeated in larval Metagonimus infections of fish and molluscs. The most important epizootiological roles are played by the carnivores, Nyctereutes procyonoides and Vulpes vulpes, by the fish Cyprinus carpio, Carassius auratus, Leuciscus waleckii and Coregonus ussuriensis and by the molluscs Semisulcospira cancellata and S. laevigata. The rate of infection of fish from the Palaearctic faunistic complex is higher than that of those from the Sino-Indian complex. Lynx lynx is recorded for the first time as a final host for Metagonimus.
