Collection of fertilized ova from superovulated DDD mice

Data are tabulated on the number of fertilised ova recovered from groups of females aged 21, 25, 28 or 35 days and superovulated with injections of 5 or 10 IU PMS followed, after 48 h, by 5 or 10 IU HCG resp. They were then housed with males , and those which mated were killed 48 h after the HCG injection. The av. number of ova obtained/mouse in each group ranged from 21.3 (15-25) to 34.8 (15-54). The max. number recovered was from females aged 25 days which were given the 5-IU doses; 8.1% of the eggs were single-celled, 66.5% two-celled and 25.4% three- or four-celled.
