The first reported outbreak of FMD due to type SAT2 virus in the Central Plateau area of Nigeria occurred in the Animal Production Unit at Vom, and spread rapidly within 12 days throughout the unit of 274 cattle. Isolation and aphthization were used to contain the outbreak. Infected nomad cattle were the probable source of the outbreak.
