This review of parasitic zoonoses in Spain includes mention of Leishmania donovani and L. tropica, which occur in 25 provinces their distribution coinciding exactly with that of their vectors Phlebotomus papatasi (Scop.), P. perniciosus Newst. and P. sergenti Parr. Although malaria is no longer a problem, the vector species of Anophelines are still present. Linguatula serrata Froel. abounds in dogs and has been found in cattle and sheep and in 2 men. Scabies [caused by Sarcoptes scabiei (L.)] is not uncommon. Ornithodoros erraticus (Lucas) is a reservoir of Borrelia hispanica and African swine fever virus in the west and south. Four other species of ticks occasionally attack man. Myiasis of various parts of the body has been reported with many species of flies as the cause.
