Serum thyroxine (T4), resin triiodothyronine uptake, and thyroxine resin T3 index were determined during 35 oestrous cycles of nine normal mares. Although serum T4 decreased after the mares ovulated, there were no significant differences in the results of the thyroid gland function tests during the different stages of the oestrous cycle. Seemingly, the state of the oestrous cycle does not significantly influence serum thyroid hormone levels in normal mares.
