Highly significant positive correlations were observed between the concentrations of 25-hydroxycholecalciferol in mothers' serum and in mixed arterio-venous cord serum of their infants, whether the infant was born at term, prematurely or as a twin. At maternal concentrations of 15 to 30 ng/ml, infant values averaged 80 plus or minus 5% of maternal values, whereas at maternal concentrations below 15 ng/ml infant values averaged 108 plus or minus 8%. There was no correlation between infant or maternal-infant differences and gestation and only slight correlation with birthweight. Race and season appeared to influence maternal 25-HCC concentrations.
