Material comprising 2 series, the 1st one including 35 tumors of the breast in females (19 malignant, 16 benign) stained with rutherium red (RR) according to the Block technique and the 2nd one with 25 tumors (13 benign and 12 malignant), treated by the scraping technique with vaccino-style in order to improve the staining. RR showed the constant location of the apical pole of the cell in malignant tumors and on the lateral aspects in benign tumors. Problems concerning the correlations which could exist between experimental and human cancer in ogenesis are discussed. The idea of topography should be compared with other purely immunological studies concerning the carcinoembryonic antigen in colic, pulmonary and human mammary tumors, all of which apparently have a preferential apical topography.
