Severe intrahepatic cholestasis in a 32-year-old woman followed thiabendazole therapy (as pinworm prophylaxis) and was associated with nausea, intense pruritus and a generalised rash. The jaundice persisted for more than a month. Massive and fatal intra-abdominal haemorrhage followed a transhepatic cholangiogram. Autopsy revealed completely patent hepatic ducts; the liver histology was compatible with a cholestatic drug reaction. This is the first report of cholestasis due to thiabendazole hypersensitivity.
