The percentage of 41,3 of secondarily sterile women is twice as high as the percentage reported by foreign authors, which prompted us to undertake the present analysis. The cause of infertility in the study series of 336 secondarily sterile women was inflammatory aetiology in 78,9% of the cases, 43,5% of which were provoked by induced abortion. The authors emphasize that special attention should be devoted to the problem of interruption of the first pregnancy because the incidence of harmful consequences with regard to disordered fertility is very high. After the interruption of the first pregnancy, they found twice as many sterile women in the group with late menarche (44) as in the group with the normal appearance of the first menstruation (21). Struggle for fertility must not be an individual matter but the concern of the whole community. Not a single gynecological - obstetrical department should be without a well-organized service for the prevention of sterility. In the authors opinion, prophylaxis of fertility should be treated with as much attention as it is done with the antenatal care of the gravida.
