An unusual case is described of T. rubrum infection of the scalp in a 74-yr-old woman who was also suffering from diabetes with kidney involvement, anaemia due to Fe-deficiency, chronic infection of the urinary passage and multiple skin carcinomas. Immunological examination established a partial defect of the immune responses; no anti-Candida albicans or anti-T. rubrum reactions were obtained in skin tests. After the diabetic condition had been controlled the T. rubrum infection was cured by local application of tolnaftate.
