The influence of avipron administered during pregnancy on the placenta and some organs of the mother and foetus in the light of histochemical research

Histochemical observations were carried out on the placenta, stomach and fetal small intestine epithelium and exocrine pancreas of pregnant females. Animals received avipron every day from the 2nd day of pregnancy; the study material was collected on the 20th day. Reduction of the activity of the following enzymes was found: ATP in the placenta, lactic and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase in the fetal small intestine epithelium. The activity of acid phosphatase in the exocrine part of the pancreas of pregnant females and the fetal small intestine epithelium increased. The accumulation of zymogen granules was observed in the pancreas. Reactions to alkaline phosphate and lactic dehydrogenase in the fetal small intestine, to alkaline phosphate in the placenta and to ATP in the exocrine part of the pancreas remained unchanged.
