Features of the microcirculation and responses of pial vessels during anaphylaxis

I.v. injection of a reacting dose of horse serum (2 ml/kg) to sensitized rabbits and dogs was accompanied by a fall in arterial pressure in the large vessels, slowing of the blood flow, blood aggregation and stasis in the terminal network of the pial vessels. An expressed dilatation of arterioles and venules was found in the animals. Injection of 1 mg/kg of horse serum to the rabbits was 1st followed by an increase in the arterial blood pressure in the large vessels, and acceleration of the blood flow in the pial vessels, a spasm of arterioles and venules; later, against a fall of arterial pressure, these vessels dilated and all the microcirculation disorders occurred.
