Comparative study on two labelled antimonial drugs, Bilharcid and tartar emetic using monkeys

Labelled piperazine di-antimonyl tartrate and antimony potassium tartrate were accumulated mainly in the liver of monkeys, but also to a lesser extent in the kidneys, heart and thyroid. Maximum excretion in faeces and urine occurred 24 hours after injection and most of the drugs were eliminated after 4 days. Maximum activity in blood occurred 8 hours after injection. The 2 drugs differed in their excretion, most of the piperazine di-antimonyl tartrate being excreted in the faeces, whereas most antimony potassium tartrate was excreted in the urine.
