Three hundred and twenty two cases of premature thelarche have been reviewed. Thre was association to ovarian cysts in 13% of the cases, ten with elevated estrogens. The high prevalence of these conditions may be indicative of estrogen contamination. The association of premature thelarche with follicular ovarian cysts has rarely been reported. We postulate that the development of the cysts is secondary to a prolonged exogenous estrogen stimulation related in some instances to a genetic predisposition to estrogen hypersensitivity.
