The presence of ringworm of the scalp has been established in Puerto Rico, although such infections do not appear to occur often. The following spp. account for most of the cases in Puerto Rico: Microsporum canis, Trichophyton tonsurans, M. gypseum and T. mentagrophytes. The first 2 are found most often. Since spontaneous infections have been found in cats and guinea pigs, they are suggested as possible reservoirs of infection.
