The author discusses 195 cases which have been studied in the leper colony of Puerto Rico during the past 20 yrs. The greatest number of cases came from the drier coastal zone where the negroid population predominates. Of the 195, 130 were males. Most cases came from the low-income class. The life expectancy after acquiring leprosy was calculated at 20 years. Promin was used from 1946-1948, diasone from 1948 to Aug., 1950, and promizole since Aug., 1950. He concludes that the sulfones have shown great promise, although they are not effective in all cases.
