Thermophilic actinomycetes isolated from 49 of 147 samples included 26 Thermoactinomyces candidus, 26 T. vulgaris, 10 T. sp., 1 Micropolyspora faeni and 3 others. Large numbers of thermophilic actinomycetes were present in air samples when sugar cane was being burnt. The results of a serological study on 159 serum samples from people in Puerto Rico demonstrated that the most prevalent thermophilic actinomycete antigen is T. sacchari (18.2%), followed by T. candidus (10.7%) and T. vulgaris (8.2%).
