Bentazone and two of its probable degradation products (2-amino-N-isopropyl benzamide and N-isopropylsulphamoyl anthranilic acid) were separated by t.l.c. on Eastman Chromatogram Sheet 6060 using as optimum solvent methanolethyl acetate (1:4). The compounds were detected as blue spots on a white background when the developed sheet was exposed to short-wavelength u.v. radiation (254 nm). The lower limit of detection was 0.5-1 mu g.
