Acute kidney injury (AKI) associated with increased pigment load in rhabdomyolysis can often lead to irreversible kidney damage. Traditional means of pigment removal are often insufficient. Recent trends have shown the use of continuous venovenous hemodiafiltration (CVVHDF) with a high-flux dialyzer in severe cases of rhabdomyolysis can lessen these irreversible effects. However, the optimal timing of CVVHDF initiation, as well as its efficacy, is still controversial. We present a case of severe rhabdomyolysis admitted to our ICU where early CVVHDF decreased irreversible kidney injury in the patient.
